Clearwire

I signed up with Clearwire last year. Since that time I have relocated to a different state where clearwire does not have service. I cancelled my service with them March 2010. They have since been still charging me monthly fees stating that I have not returned the equipment. I did return the equipment. They then told me that in order for me to have the fees reversed i would need to fax a proof of move. I did fax the proof of move. They still continue to take money out of my account stating that I was being charged a termination and other credits owed to me for service I wasn't using disappeared and they claim they do not owe me that money.

CLEARWIRE IS TRYING TO RIP ME OFF!!!

i've had clearwire internet for about 4 years now with very few complaints (just a couple of connectivity issues) no big deal....TILL NOW!!! my service went down completely. after a few things they had me try, they determined it was my modem. fine, they overnighted me a new modem and told me to follow the instructions on returning the old one. my service went down on a sunday, i had a new modem on tuesday, sent the old one out on wednsday and a phone call on friday saying my debit card would not accept the charge of $211 for not returning the old modem????? (automated) still no big deal. i called them they said they recognized the error and would correct this. monday. i find my debit card is charged $211. issue i have to take up with my bank ($200 max per day) anyway, i just found out about this tonight when i noticed the charge and the billing dept. is closed. bank will now charge me for going minimum. thanks for letting me vent, i'll sleep better tonight.

Clearwire - Hooked and crooked

The reception through the modem is good to begin with, but slowly decays over the months of service. Following numerous calls to the tech assistance including one visit, we "must have some interference that the cause cannot be located." "But it worked well for 4 months and then degraded after that point in time" I stated. The response from some of the Clearwire reps was one of contradiction in root causes. Then the ultimate blast!! They have the incessant need to maintain your subscription and bleed you dry!! Try to cancel the service-it is auto renewing; you must cancel within a week of its expiration or it will auto renew for a year; make certain even that even though you are not using the service during this year and thwarting $30/month for an inoperable service, that you do NOT toss the modem - you will be charged $200. The only good thing is the information is provided to you from the US versus India - but you are screwed regardless!!!

Clearwire Cancellation Issues

I have a 2 year contract with Clearwire. Over six months ago I moved to another part of the city. At my new location, the connection speed is terrible and I frequently have trouble connecting to the Internet. I have complained to Clearwire about this several times. Finally, I had enough and called them to cancel. I was told that my contract had three months remaining and if I cancelled now they were going to charge me a $180 fee for early termination. They will not let me out of my contract even though the service has been poor. I am outraged by this. Didn't the cell phone providers try to do the same thing for customers that wanted to cancel early? It is time for Congess to step in once again and put a stop to this type of ripoff. I intend to forward a copy of this complaint to Clearwire as well as my state Senator in North Carolina!

Same happens to me right now! Moved houses and new location has no connection.

Called them three times to let them know that after January (when my two-year contract expires) I don't want it any longer. Three times they tell me either pay $40 for early cancellation or call again and again and again.

I tolde them I'll write a complaint and I'll highly recommend anyone NOT to sign up with them. Having

millions of customers one month more or less makes them millions those greedy sharks.

The uplink speed is simply nowhere near anything else at 256kb's. You cannot watch streaming anything or play online games.

The sales rep claimed it would be comparable to Comcast or Verizon and it simply is not. We were looking for anything other than cable giant Comcast and thought we'd try this local company and its pretty much rubbish.

You did not have to go under the contract. If you did not go under the promotion you took; You could pay for the full price of modem, pay for activation, and pay month to month pricing. If the full contract is not fullfilled it does have a penalty of a early termination fee.

Clearwire is a Fruad

Clearwire's sales team team will do whatever it takes to get your business and then they will try to rape you financially. Be warned this company is not worth the trouble!!! They make all kinds of offers to pull you in, they'll even use false social security numbers, so beware!!! Thier service is questionable, you have to move your box around as if you are in the stone age, if there's any interference...forget about it!!! It's like waiting for paint to dry, Your computer may even crash if your not careful. Clearwire's days are numbered!!!

Clearwire installs nothing on your computer and is only connected by an ethernet cable. The only way anything will crash your computer is if you go to someplace that has a virus or spyware link.

The other reason is that hardware eventually fails. With no other service can you carry your connection to a different location.

Clearwire can't break the laws of physics, the modem does need a line of sight, through radio signal, to tower. Putting the modem next to your computer or even on a microwave does not improve the modem's connectivity.

Clearwire customer service

I purchased my Clearwire Internet modem at a Best Buy in Modesto. The Clearwire rep at Best Buy stated that since I lived in San Jose (where Clearwire doesn't have service) it would be no problem to cancel my account with no financial penalties since I was only living part time in Modesto and Stockton. When I called to cancel my account I was told that I would be charged over $100 for early cancellation. They stated that they were not responsible for what their product rep told me when I first purchased the service. I decided to pay for the remaining months of service because it was cheaper. I told Clearwire employees that I had no intention of continuing service unless they were going to have service in the San Jose area. I paid up to the end of my contract. I also never received a return label to give Clearwire their modem back. They stated that this was not their fault and that I still needed to pay them for the service I didn't use after the contract fulfillment. I didn't know that they were going to continue to bill me, until they received their equipment. Where am I to return the modem and how would I know that they would be billing me for nonuse?

Are we to actually feel sorry for this person who filed this report? The comment is misspelled.

It makes no sense whatsoever and his/her biggest gripe is that he/she waited on the phone for a 35 minutes? Oh the fast food society we live in. I'm surprised this person graduated high school.

It's no wonder they cannot figure out their internet service. Spoiled brat.

Clearwire does not provide the bandwidth that I pay for.

Clearwire is an internet provider. I pay $50/mnth for internet service that is stated to be "up to 1.5Mb". Clearwire is a wireless provider (the modem that you pay for receives its signal wirelessly).I have used several bandwidth speed checks, such as cnet bandwidth meter, and have never got throughput above 800kb.Often times the bandwidth is down to 240kbps. Clearwire has no technicians so you must be satisfied with a telephone or online chat double speak. I have never been able to get an answer to the question of whether or not their system is actually capable of higher broadband throughput.

First few months are great even with multiple users in the house, downloading at around 300-400 kb/s. After that, it gets slower and slower.

I still have 6 months of *** to go and we now download at 1.6 kb/s. The downloads even go as far as to freezing at points. Streaming videos become too slow to load and I just don't feel the point to wait 10 minutes for a 3 minute video to load up anymore. Online games are even worse, it lags and you cannot do anything in it.

Chatting online is a problem too, sending 1 message for every 5 messages.

My dial-up was faster than this, my previous internet provider as well. My suggestion, avoid Clearwire.

its insane the amount of money they charge for the service

We are paying for 6-8Mbps. I'm currently looking at a Clearwire modem with full signal, that's 5 lights out of 5 lights on.

I'm currently downloading a file at 73.2KB/s.

This morning it reached 682.4KB/s but that was before everyone woke up. Clearwire does offer speeds up to 8Mbps and can reach them if YOU are the ONLY one on their networks.

I have had there service for over two years. The last couple of months it has slowed way down.

I blame this on a bandwidth problem as more and more people are using Netflix and You Tube to watch streaming video the system can't handle the number of users on line. I can start out early in the morning and get 1.5 mbps speed and as the day moves along the speed slows down to the point of a 28k dial up phone.

I will be switching to another service now that I have observed this slow down day after day. Their system is overloaded with users.

Kent A Bio

Their customer service is subpar and they obviously don't know what they're doing. The guys on the phone are more useful than trying to speak with the ones online (they're useless for anything more than testing minor stuff).

I figured with a store close to me, if I had minor issues or problems, I could go to them. Sorry, not an option. They're nothing more than salesmen, and not even qualified to teach my dog (if I had one) anything about computers. "Call Tech Support" is what they tell for if you come in about anything besides buying a new product or adding services to your account.

The problem I had (which I now know how to deal with) was the speed I was getting was WAY below what was promised. Turns out some of it was misleading and some of it is my building. The misleading I blame them for, the building I can't do much about.

I'll clear what they're blameless for, and thats the fact that while there ARE towers close to me, because of my location, there are so many buildings that the signal strength is drastically reduced which reduces the maximum speed. This is something they can't do much about, but their tech guys should KNOW "ok, we get a lot of calls from this area about this problem, and we know the source of it, so we can tell the customer that may be their problem". They don't seem to understand that simple concept however.

What IS their fault is how they're misleading in their advertising. They say 3 - 6 Mps with bursts of up to 10 Mbps. The average consumer would think "Oooh, three to six MEGABYTES". That's not what they mean however, and this requires some explanation.

They mean three to six MegaBits per second. I checked, megabit is listed as (Mb) while megabyte is listed as (MB). It's a mathematical thing in how its listed. It's misleading and borderline on lying to the customer.

A Bit is actually only 8 Bytes. So, to get the actual speed, you have to divide by eight. So their speed is actually (3-6 with bursts of 10)/8 ...

384 KB/s (kilobytes per second) (low end)

768 KB/s (kilobytes per second) (high end)

1,280 KB/s (kilobytes per second) (burst)

So, rounding it's 350KB/s - 750KB/s with bursts of up to 1.2MB/s

Doesnt sound as good on paper or for advertising. If you want confirmation, check Speedtest.net (which a lot of people use), it says MEGABITS for speed.

The speed I get is on the low end of what they promised (I average 100KB/s and get bursts of up to 300KB/s), but considering my location it's understandable. When I'm out of this area, I do get the speeds they promised me.

However, with that all said, their customer service still sucks, their store reps are nothing more than salesmen, they don't communicate with each other, and I'll be glad when my cancellation fee is gone.

A lot said, but I had to give you the full details of my situation.

worthless...Ipay60 buck amonth for the 1.5 service....yet my average downlodd speed is in the single digits/kbps...yes Kb...sometimes even dropping below 1kbps, have called numerous times pretty much allthey dois have me empty browser cache....I'm a comuter science major, and I tell them thisalong with that I have gone over most troubleshooting before bothering to call, best advice I have got from them was to run a ipconfig/flushdns

Sorry, but the worst part about Clearwire is the company itself. The supposed 7 days you have to cancel the contract is a scam. You actually have to have the equipment back to Clearwire before the seven days are up. If you actually try the service for a couple of days there is no way you can get the equipment back to them before the seven days are up.

Clearwire does all it can to get as much money out of its customers as possible. The service is slow, problematic and not worth the price. You can get much faster broadband for the same price elsewhere.

The customer service are more like highway bandits than someone trying to help you. Use Clearwire at your own risk. The contact reads like the old contracts that the scam artists who ran health clubs in the old days used to use. It is basically set up to make it impossible for you to get out of the contract if you are unhappy with the service.

When I first signed up, my connection was fantastic, though conveniently right after the "trial" period my connection speed dropped off the face of the earth. I'm not whining that I cannot download 5 Gig iso's, Seems to me a simple case of scaling people back.

a news website taking 3 minutes to load at 3 a.m.

is NOT acceptable. I am tired of calling and getting the power cycle runaround, cancelling this week, already lining up and attorney, have contacted the BBB and waiting for them to try and screw me.

Guest

I'm in the same boat with "pissed." I have had nothing but trouble with clearwire. I have just finished my contract (thank heavens) and will be terminating ASAP.

The excuse that it is "new technology" is bunk, when I first signed on I got what I paid for... for about 3 months. Then after the "trial" was over my speeds were cut. The technology is sufficiently stable to provide the bandwidth, it just cuts into the profit margins.

This is a bogus company with crapy customer service (their answer to everything is either move your receiver or power cycle your system) quality trouble shooting there... This is a complete scam and rip off.

Clearwire falsified information to get me into a contract!

Clearwire set me up under a false address. I tried to change it once I realized this, but my address was not in their coverage area. I found our later that the false address was a Round Table Pizza (don't think could I live there) By the time I figured this all out, it was too late to cancel my service. Even though they set up my contract using false information, they would not let me out of my contract without an early termination fee! I think this is illegal! By the time I got this all worked out, I had paid for 4 months of *** service. I also had to pay for the time that I was in mediation with the company, and the time it took to recieve a return UPS label and send the modem back. I was not refunded for any of it! Don't use this service! They will do anything to get your money and don't care about consumers.

Clearwire recently changed the terms of my service agreement and still won't let me out of my contract, even though I do not agree with the changes and have sent written complaints saying so. Don't ever sign up for Clearwire!

EVER PEOPLE.
